Bangladesh floods not due to Tripura dam : MEA

The Ministry of External Affairs ( MEA ) denied that floods in Eastern Bangladesh were caused by the opening of Dumbur dam in Tripura .

The clarification comes after protesters in Bangladesh blame India  for the floods in eastern districts of Bangladesh .

Indian High commissioner in Dhaka met interim government chief Mohammad Yunus and expressed “ concern “ about heightened security threats to the Indian embassy and personal living in Bangladesh over the rumours .

Dunbur Dam is. “  Auto releasing”  water as a consequence of heavy rainfall , MEA said in a statement .

The Dunbur Dam is built on Gumti which flows through India and Bangladesh.

India and Bangladesh share 54 rivers .

Tripura has witnessed heavy rain from August 19 to 22 .

This has resulted in the death of 12 persons in Tripura . The water level is above danger level in Dhalai , Khowai , South Tripura , West Tripura , North Tripura and Unakoti districts .

Landslip incidents have occurred at 2,032 locations . 1,789 of these have been cleared for restoration .

The state govt has opened 450 relief camps in which more than 65,000 people have taken shelter .

NDRF and SDRF have been deployed for search and Rescue operations .

Doctors in capital calls off 11 day strike aw SC broker peace

Following Supreme Court appeal on Thursday , doctors in Many states , called of their strike against brutal rape and murder of of a trainee doctor in Kolkata hospital .

The court said that it will prevent doctors from any adverse action by hospital authorities , once they get back to hospitals .

The court ordered creation of an Online Portal to receive suggestions and grievances even anonymously .

The court directed the health ministry to provide safety to doctors till the report of NTF comes .

No problem can be solved in battlefield

PM Modi was warmly received by his Counterpart Donald Tusk  .

The two held bilateral talk .

Some major outcomes of bilateral meeting are :

  • India and Poland have agreed to upgrade their ties to “strategic partnership “ .
  • India and Poland have agreed to formulate and execute a five year action plan that will guide their collaboration between 2024 to 2028 .

The areas identified for cooperation are political dialogue and security cooperation , trade and investment , climate , energy , mining , science and Technology , transport  and connectivity , terrorism , cyber security , health , people to people ties and cultural cooperation .

  • PM Modi announced the Jam Saheb of Nawanagar Youth Exchange programme under which every year 20 young person’s from Poland will be taken on a tour to India .

PM Modi called Polish companies which are leaders in Food Processing to join Mega Food Park Projects in India .

No problem can be solved in battlefield , says Modi

Speaking on conflict in Ukraine and other parts of the world , In a remark after a bilateral meeting with PM Modi said  “ this is India’s firm belief that no problem can be solved on the battlefield . In any battle the loss of lives of innocent people has become  for humanity . We support dialogue and diplomacy for the early restoration of peace and stability . “

“ For this , India is ready to provide all possible support . “ PM Modi said .

Congress  ,National Conference announce pre poll alliance for J&K assembly election

The Congress and National Conference ( NC )  have decided to forge a pre – poll alliance for the upcoming J&K assembly elections .

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjuna kHrge met NC President Farruq Abdullah to formalise the alliance .

CPI (M ) is also part of the alliance .

Farooq Abdullah said that the seat Sharing has been finalised .

J&K has a total of 90 assembly seats . 47 seats lie in Kashmir , while 43 in Jammu .

The assembly elections in the state will be held between September 18 , September 25 , and October 1 .

Delhi Police busted ‘ terror network ‘

The Delhi Police on Thursday bursted an “ al qaeda inspired “ terror network that was active in states of Rajasthan , Jharkhand , and Uttar Pradesh , and detained 14 suspects in the case .

NDMA to monitor 189 high risk glacial lakes to prevent disaster

The National Disaster Management Authority ( NDMA ) has finalised a list of 189 “  high risk  “ glacial lakes for mitigation measures .

Glacial lake outburst is one of the major  disasters which can damage property and cause loss of life .

NDMA will attempt “ lake lowering measures “ , which are a buffer against any overflow .

The National Glacial Lake Outburst Floods Risk Mitigation Programme was approved on  July 25 .

There are 7500 glacial lakes in the Himalayas . India is monitoring 902 of them via remote sensing .

Reaching the lakes at high altitude is difficult owing to inhospitable conditions ,it can be done only between months of July and September .

So far 15 expeditions have been conducted to study the lakes in Sikkim , Ladakh ,Himachal Pradesh and J&K .

Last October ,Lohnak lake in Sikkim overflowed and destroyed Chungthang dam over Teesta River; more than 40 people were killed in this .

SriLanka SC says Ranil guilty of ‘ arbitrary and unlawful ‘ conduct

Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court on Thursday found President Ranil Wickramshinghe guilty of “ unlawful and arbitrary “ conduct , in postponement of local body elections scheduled last year .

Just after holding office of President , Mr Wickramshighe had cited the economic crisis and not enough funds to hold local elections ।.

The Election Commission could not hold elections because of lack of funds .

The court directed Election Commission directed the election commission to conduct local elections “ at the earliest possible “ , it hold “executive branch “ for infringement of fundamental rights of citizens .

China lodges ‘ serious protest’ with US over meeting Dalai Lama

Dalia Lama is currently in New York and undergoing knee surgery .

Uzra Zeya , the US under secretary of state civilian security , Democratic and Human rights held an audience with the Dalai Lama and conveyed Joe Biden’s message .

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said , “ China firmly opposes any country , allowing the Dalai Lama  to make visits under any pretext and opposes government officials of any country meeting the Dalai Lama in any form .”

China had opposed the “ Resolve Tibet Act “ passed by the US Congress . The Act talks of Tibet as a disputed region and calls for its independence .

A safety audit is necessary to prevent industrial accidents

The editorial is about a reactor blast in pharma Company Escentia’s plant in Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone ( SEZ ) in Anakapalli district , Andhra Pradesh .

It is the worst industrial accident in the region in recent times .

The accident was because of a leak of the chemical MTBE ( Methyl   butyl ether )  , which fell on the electrical panel leading to  the accident .

The editorial says that the accident was because of negligence in safety procedures .

Though the government  elements these companies from regular safety checks so that it doesn’t cause disruption in companies working . 

Government should do safety audits to industries in SEZ at regular time intervals to prevent such accidents .
