Pacific islands forum ( PIF )  meeting wrapped up on Friday in Tonga .

One major decision taken here was a Joint policing Initiative . Under this four regional police training centres will be created ,backed by initial 271 million dollar funding from Australia .

Another contentious issue was ouster over Taiwan , on which no decision was taken to oust it as a development partner .

The PIF is a group of 18 Pacific Ocean countries .  Australia and NewZealand are the only two major large countries among other small Island states .

This is the region of countries which used to recognise Taiwan .

In recent years Taiwan , Kiribati and Nauru have switched to recognise Beijing instead of Taipei .

Palau , Marshall Island ,and Tuvalu still maintain diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

Taiwan has been a development partner of the group for a long timehhh .

But as the influence of China has increased in the region , it was expected that Taiwan would be removed as a development partner .

Solomon Islands , the most friendly partner of China, made this an issue . But the group failed . announce the ouster of Taiwan .

One China Policy – It says that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of China .

China doesn’t hold diplomatic relations with any country which recognises  Taiwan .
