SC intervenes in rape and murder of the doctor
The Supreme Court on Sunday took Motu cognisance in the RG Kar college murder case of a doctor .
The matter will be heard by a bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud .
This follows August 13 order by Calcutta High court of CBI enquiry into the case .
Suo Motu Cognisance means that the court has decided to hear the matter on its own without any petition being filed . The Supreme Court and High courts in India hold such powers under Article 32 and Article 226 .
On Sunday , Indian Medical Association ( IMA ) ended its 24 hours strike on the issue . It said that a committee has been formed that will prepare a document about safety of healthcare employees and the document will be presented to the Health Ministry for consideration .
Health ministry on Saturday had appealed to doctors to cancel their strike for the support of patients .
Protest erupt near the stadium in Kolkata
A violent protest erupted near the salt take hospital in Kolkata demanding justice in rape and murder in RG Kar hospital .
About 60,000 people had gathered for a Football match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan , the Derby match was announced to be cancelled . The football supporters then marched for protest .

12% tested spice sample fail quality , safety standard
According to RTI information of Reuters 474 samples of 4054 samples tested between May and early July by FSSAI have been found to not meet safety standards .
In April Hong Kong had suspended Indian spice import after complaining of high levels of pesticides .
Britain had tightened regulation about Indian spice import . The US ,Australia and NewZealand had also said that they were looking into the matter .

Defense Minister open new Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Chennai
Defense Minister Rajhanth Singh inaugurated the new Maritime Rescue and Coordination Center ( MRCC ) of the coast guard in Chennai on Saturday .
The centre would coordinate rescue and distress operations for mariners and fishermen at sea .
It would also serve as a nerve centre for coordinating all marine rescue operations on the East coast of India and beyond .

Ukraine says it struck key bridge in Russia’s kursk
Ukraine said on Sunday that it had struck a second bridge in Kursk to disrupt the Russian supply chain .
On Friday , Ukraine destroyed a bridge in the neighbouring town of Glushkova .
The two bridges are on the Seine river which separates the Ukrainian controlled Kursk region from Russia .
The Kursk invasion was launched on August 6 . Later Ukraine sent Enforcement to hold Russian captured territory in the region. .
Russia has intensified its operation in the eastern region , where its forces have captured Svyrnvodivka , which is 15 km away from Pokrovsk .
Pokrovsk is a key town and a logistics hub of Ukraine .

Bangladesh interim government chief Mohammad Yunus on Sunday accused Sheikh Hasina of destroying institutions to stay in power .
“ In their effort to stay in power , Sheikh Hasina’s government destroyed every institution of the country . The judiciary was broken . Democratic rights were suppressed through a brutal decade and half long long crackdown . “
Currently Ms Hasina is facing 11 cases , including eight of Murder , one for abduction and two for crime against humanity and genocide in Bangladesh .

Election commission has announced dates of Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assembly polls . The polls will be held from 18 September to 1 October . The results will be announced on October 4 . The dates of assembly elections in Maharashtra , Jharkhand and Delhi will be announced later .
For Jammu and Kashmir , this is the first election after abrogation of Article 370 . The Supreme Court had directed the Elections before September . The state assembly boundaries have been reorganised .It will be interesting to see the outcome of this Election .
