Protesters , Kolkata Police clash ; BJP calls Bandh

“ March to Nabanna “ saw massive protests by student groups in West Bengal .

The March was against rape and murder of a doctor in R G Kar medical college and hospital .

Nabanna is state secretariat . The student ts and protesters were demanding resignation of CM Mamta Banerjee .

For several hours , Police and protesters engaged in widespread violence where several protesters and police were injured when police tried to prevent protesters from moving ahead .

125 protesters have been arrested while 15 police personnel have sustained injuries .

Mohanlal resigns AMMA exclusive Panel dissolved

The executive committee of the Association of Malyalam Movie Artistes (AMMA ) , was on Tuesday dissolved amid growing allegation of sexual assault and misbehaviour against its members .

All 17 members including President and senior actor Mohanlal have submitted his resignation .

The committee was elected in June and has tenure till 2027 .

Meanwhile , Kerala SIT has started probe into sexual harassment allegation by few actors . It will use evidence such as survivors’ statements to friends , text messages , e-mail , personal journals and others to build a watertight case 

SC grants bail to Kavitha ,criticised central bodies

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha’s release on bail . in Delhi Liquor policy case .

SC accused ED of “ pick and choose “ , whom to make  witness and whom to make the accuser . SC cited that Magunta Srinibas Reddy currently an MP at NDA , only a witness of the case , while his son Raghav Runguta was turned from an accused to an approver .

According to ED the deal between Mr Kejriwal and K Kavitha was finalised at Raghav Runguta’s residence .

SC in his oral comment pulled ED for this .

SC stays AYUSH Ministry’s notification omitting key rule prohibiting misleading advertisements

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the July 1 notification issued by AYUSH Ministry in which rule 170 of drugs and cosmetics rule 1945 , was “ omitted “ . The rule deals with the power to take action against  objectionable and misleading advertisements about Ayurvedic , Siddha and Unani drugs . 

After phone call with Biden , Modi discusses Ukraine trip with Putin

PM Modi on Tuesday  called President Putin  of Russia and briefed him about his recent visit to Ukraine .

According to a Kremlin readout , PM Modi shared “ his insight “ on recent visit to Ukraine . He underlined the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to solve the problem .

PM Modi also confirmed his participation in the BRICS summit to be hosted by Russian city Kazan from October 22 to 24 .

On Monday PM Modi had called US President Joe Biden . The US readout about this call said that US president Biden “ commended “ India for his historic visit to”  Poland and Ukraine .”

,the first by an Indian prime Minister in decades .

Eight fisherman from T.N. held by SriLankan Navy , boat impounded

Eight fishermen from TamilNadu and Thangachimadam in TamilNadu were arrested by the Srilankan Navy on charges of poaching in the early hours on Tuesday .

A Mechanised boat was also impounded .

The arrested persons were reportedly fishing between Dhanuskoidi and Talaimannar .

Sri Lankan Naval personnel  arrested them and took them to  .

CM M.K . Stalin has written to EAM S. Jaishankar urging him to secure the release of all fishermen arrested .  He pointed out that 115 fisherman and 184 boats were in the Srilankan custody .

IIL , Australian varsity develop needle free CoViD 19 vaccine

The Hyderabad based Indian Immunological Limited ( IIL ) , in partnership with Griffith University , Australia has developed a needle free intranasal booster vaccine against SARS Cov2 , a press conference from the company has said .

The vaccine will be administered through Nasal cavity .

CDSCO grants approval for making RT PCR testing kits to detect MPox in India

The Central Drug Standard Control Organisation has granted approval to Siemens Healthineers for the manufacturing  of RT PCR test kits for detection of Mpox , a senior health official in the ministry said .

The kits will be manufactured by the company’s molecular diagnostic s manufacturing unit in Vadodara , with a production capacity of 1 million .

With the RT PCR  test kit , the results will be available in 40 minutes . The current lab test through swab specimens takes a few days to give results .

Quicker results will help  in controlling spread of Mpox .

RT PCR – Real Time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction , measures the amount of specific RNA to detect disease.

Himachal assembly passes bill raising marriage age for women to 21 from 18 years

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly has passed a Bill to increase marriage age for girls from 18 to 21 years .

Marriage is a subject under concurrent list .

AAP got ₹45 crore in bribe , CM Promised ₹90 lakh to party nominees in Goa : CBI

The CBI on Tuesday said that a court AAP National convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised ₹ 90 lakh each to the 40 candidates of his party during 2021 assembly elections .

CBI said that the money for this was provided by “ South group “ in exchange to the favours granted by Delhi Government under now scrapped excise policy 2021 -22 .

The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 3 .

Maldives Police probe an alleged attempt to topple government

The Police in the Maldives are investigating an alleged attempt to topple President Mpgamwend Muizzue .

Last week , the main commercial market in the upmarket tourist destination drastically reduced the foreign exchange spending allowed for Maldivians , sparking widespread anger .

Mr Muizzue slammed the  move as an “ illegal attempt “ to overthrow his government , by making him unpopular and encouraging street protests .

Police have started an investigation into an alleged coup attempt .

The bank has said that its step came in response to escalating usage of foreign currency on cards and the static sale of foreign currency to banks .

Maldives current FoREX reserve is 492 million dollar in May.

Maldives foreign debt is about 4.038 billion dollars ,  Which is 118% of GDP .

UN calls out China’s ‘ problematic ‘ human rights practices in Xinjiang

The UN Human Rights Office ( OHCHR ) said on Tuesday “ problematic “ policies persist in China’s Xinjiang . It demanded China to “ undertake a full review “   of its policies to guard minorities against discrimination .

In a report published two years ago by OHCHR China was  accused of incarcerating more than one million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities in Northwestern Xinjiang province .

The new report pertains to a visit by ONE team to Xinjiang in February 2023 .

Khameini opens door for discussions with US over Iran’s nuclear programme

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini on Tuesday , asked his country’s leadership to engage with the US over the civil nuclear programme .

He said that there is no harm in engaging with “ enemies “ .

Mr Khameini said that there was nothing wrong in renegotiating with “ enemy “

Khamenie however warned President Pezeskian cabinet , he said , “ Do not trust the enemy “

Economic sanctions were lifted by the Barack Obama government . Which was later reimposed by Donald Trump .

The sanctions include excluding a company to trade in the US , if it traded with Iran .

 In Iran the final say on policy making is in the hands of Supreme Leader Khameini .
