CBI names Kejriwal in Excise policy case final charge sheet

The central Bureau of investigation has  named Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the final charge sheet in the Delhi Excise Policy Case .

The CBI in its Fifth supplementary chargesheet has charged 16 people including former Delhi Deputy CM  Manish Sisodia and Telangana MLC K Kavitha .

The agency said that Kickbacks of around ₹90 – ₹100 crore were paid to AAP which was used in AAP’s election campaign .

SC refuses to stay HC ruling quashing 65 % quota  in Bihar

 SC on Monday refused to order an interim stay on a Patna High Court decision quashing reservation up to 65 % for OBC , EBC , SC and STs combined .

The Supreme Court however agreed to hear the appeal filed by the Bihar government  against Patna High Court order to annex 65 % reservation  .

The High Court had said that 65 % of reservation violates the right to equal opportunity for citizens. 

QUAD calls for end of violence  in Ukraine , Gaza and Myanmar

Foreign ministers of QUAD countries met in Tokyo under QUAD Foreign Ministers meet .

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar  , US secretary of state Antony Blinken ,Australia’s foreign minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko participated .

The joint statement  announced a plan to expand the Indo Pacific Partnership to Maritime Domain Awareness ( IPMDA ) to the Indian Ocean Region .

IPMDA is a technology  and training Initiative to enhance maritime domain awareness in the Indo Pacific region ,and to bring transparency to its critical waterways . IPMDA uses innovative technology,  satellite data to provide partners across South East Asia , the Indian Ocean Region and the Pacific with real time information .

The joint statement condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7. It also said that “  large-scale civilian lives and Humanitarian crisis in Gaza are unacceptable . “  The statement  called for increased aid deliveries to Gaza . It also asked Israel and Hamas  to immediately ceasefire and release the hostages .

On Ukraine , The joint statement underscored “ sovereignty  and territorial integrity “ of Ukraine  and sought a “ comprehensive , just and lasting  peace in line with International  law , consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN charter . “

The meeting also took up violence in Myanmar , which has pitted dozens of ethnic armed forces against military Junta

Supreme Court begins week long Lok Adalat drive

Supreme Court on Monday commenced a week long special Lok Adalat to amicably settle long pending disputes as part of 75 th anniversary celebration . The lok Adalat would Continue till August 3 .

The seven benches of the Supreme Court will be transferred into Lok Adalats every day at 2 PM.

In a Lok Adalat cases are resolved amicably and speedily.

Defense Acquisition  council approves amendment to MQ 9 B  deal with the US

The Defense Acquisition  council chaired by Defense minister Rajnath Singh reviewed and approved the deal for the procurement of 31 MQ 9 B High Altitude Long Endurance ( HALE )  Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ( UAV ) from General Atomics .

The amendments approved are within the scope of acceptance of necessity ( AoN ) , they are related to indigenous content and related aspects .

India is looking to procure 31 MQ 9 B  UAV from the USA at an estimated cost of 3.99 billion dollars . As part of the deal General atomics will establish a Global Maintenance , Repair and Overhaul facility in India .

Centre likely to move ILO against its India employment report

India, a founding member of ILO , is likely  to raise a complaint against the UN agency against India Employment Report , 2024 , released in March .

A Union labour ministry official said the “ model “ ILO had used to assess the employment scene in India was not suitable for INDIA and  India had its own assessment of the situation.

The  ILO had taken many data from a private agency Center For Monitoring Indian Economy ( CMIE ) . However the government  uses Periodic Labour Force Survey ( PLFS ) data .

NCERT proposes ‘10 bagless days ‘ a year from classes 6 to 8

NCERT has proposed 10 ‘ bagless days’ a year for students  between classes 6 to 8 .

In the guidelines NCERT has proposed students  to learn from local vocational experts , including carpenters , gardeners , potters and artists .

The themes divided under bagless days curriculum are – exposure to the aspects of science , environment  and tech , exposure to public life,  local  industry and businesses ; art , culture and history.

Maduro declared winner of disputed Venezuela polls

Nicolas Maduro was declared winner of Venezuela’s Presidential election on Sunday.

He won 51.2 % of votes while the opposition  candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia received 44.2 % of votes .

Opposition  rejected the results claiming that it had garnered 70 % of votes .

Opposition declared Mr Urrutia the winner .

Mr Maduro accused the opposition  of planning a coup d’etat . He also claimed that Foreign hands are behind the opposition party .

The result was rejected by neighbours Chile , Costa Rica , Peru . The US has also called the result a “ serious concern “ as it didn’t reflect the will of Venezuelans .

Venezuelan allies China , Russia , Cuba , Honduras,  and Bolivia however congratulated Mr Maduro .

‘Israel will hit Hezbollah but does not want an all out war ‘

Israel  does not want an all out war with Hezbollah , Israeli officials said  Monday .

This comes after Hezbollah missiles killed 12 in Golan heights . This was one of the worst casualties from the Israeli side .

New UK government to restart Trade talk with India and others

The UK’s new labour government  announced that it would begin Trade talks with India , Israel , Gulf Cooperation Council  , South Korea , Swirzerbalad , and Turkey .

The UK and India has completed 14 rounds of negotiations  . But the trade talk has not got completed till now .

The UK wants greater access to Indian markets as far as financial,  legal and other series are concerned . India wants greater ease of moving its citizens to the UK . Both countries want greater access to goods in several categories.

The UK Foreign secretary David Lammy , was in New Delhi last week to  “ reset “ ties  the labour party had with India particularly Over Kashmir.
